The sound of a space is just as important as the drums themselves, but even the best reverbs fail to capture the true sense of being in the room. Hit the drums hard and you’ll feel the explosive life a room creates as it thunders through the air. Tap them gently and the room will softly speak, creating a beautiful atmosphere.
The Stairwell
The stairwell I used to sample these drums is incredible. Manchester is an amazing city, full of the heritage of the industrial revolution. All over the city are mills, warehouses and industrial spaces with all the original features still intact. With brick walls and a seemingly endless amount of stairs, these drums thunder through this unique space.
To help you work quickly and creatively, most samples have four different mix ready blends:
- Dry (close mics only)
- Big (close mics and stairwell room mics)
- Rooms (stairwell room mics only)
- Crunch (close mics and stairwell room mics, distorted)
